Walking into Maltman Upper at dusk you take a deep breath and let your shoulders drop. The space is deep, open, and airy. Immediately you're drawn to the deck where the silhouette of the foothills descends against the colored sky. One by one, the lights come on, glistening over the ridges and canyons in a silent roar. It’s another beautiful evening in Los Angeles. Turning to go inside for a minute, you take stock of the interior. Remodeled in 2008 by Thomas Michna, it has an elegant unobtrusiveness. The lines are clean. The finishes just right. The wall-to-wall Caesar-stone countertops do not quit. So make yourself at home. This evening is like your favorite long-playing jazz record.
