Lying in the shadow of Griffith Observatory and Frank Lloyd Wright's Ennis Brown house, Berendo offers the many cultural accoutrements of Los Feliz Village all within a short walk's reach. The papardelle at Little Dom's, Fish Taco's on Hillhurst, cocktails at The Dresden. You'll wonder why you didn't come here sooner. The house is a Spanish Eclectic with furnishings by Nelson, Eames, and McCobb; luxury appliances by Viking; and a collection of contemporary paintings, prints and photographs that range from airy beachscapes to outsider art. The rooms are large and open, but the devil is in the details; Basilica floor tile, embossed wallpaper, the claw-foot tub. The large front porch overlooks a tableaux of native grasses and crushed granite, while in the back the scene's more lush: a lawn and outdoor lounge complete with a fire pit for those cool Southern California evenings.
